AcO2, the ACO’s regional touring Orchestra combines ACO core player with hot young up-and-coming Australian musicians. In August 2011 AcO2 tours through regional NSW and QLD with Guest Director and Lead Violin Thomas Gould from the UK. AcO2 have visited some of the regional centres in this tour in previous years so there should be some familiarity with AcO2.
Since graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in 2006, young British violinist Thomas Gould has been showered with glowing and enthusiastic acclaim from critics and audiences. He makes his Australian debut directing ACO2 in one of the most magnificent pieces of music of all time, Bach's Goldberg Variations. Starting with a simple song, Bach guides us through a myriad of musical styles over thirty variations. First, though, music from Estonian pop-star-turned-composer Erkki-Sven Tüür and Schubert's charming Arpeggione Sonata.
